5.2) Worn rollers

The grip between the rollers and the tyre determine the grip coefficient (f).
If the grip goes down the brake force needed to make the wheels loose grip goes down too.
A smooth shiny corundum coated roller could have a grip coefficient as low as 0.4.



Consider this:

A 1000 Kg axle should return with f=0.85 (1000 / 2 = 5KN x 0.85) 4.25KN.
The same axle will return 1000 / 2 = 5KN x 0.4 = 2.00 KN on the worn rollers.

The axle efficiency is on the worn rollers 40% which is below the current legal limit of 50%, while the actual efficiency is 85%.
