Detailed description of the D 1 (Diesel Emission Inspector D 1) training seminar
    4 hours seminar.

This seminar is constructed to teach the technician how to perform emission inspections on Diesel vehicles to a consistent level as set out in the YES Emission Screening Programme.

The YES Association has in conjunction with various large automotive industry expert groups developed an objective automotive emissions screening programme, which at first will run parallel to the subjective visual emission inspection, but eventually replaces it.

The Diesel Emission Inspector D 1 seminar covers the following topics:
    1. Vehicle preparations.
Any vehicle which is not prepared properly will fail the emission test. For example the engine needs to be up to operating temperature, how best to implement the testing regime so you don't have to take every vehicle for a time consuming run before the check. This is particular important for the more efficient Diesel vehicles who warm up slower than Petrol vehicles.
Which probes and which sensors to connect to the vehicle and what to watch out for.
How to stay safe in the workshop in regards to emissions, and the effect of particulate emissions on inspector's health.

    2. Screening standards.
During the first implementation stage the opacity emission screening will be compared to two different emission level standards (European, and proposed NZ).
Short background overview will be given of both standard's pass or fail limits.

    3. The actual testing procedure.
Theoretical and practical testing procedure on Diesel vehicle(s) will be performed.

    4. Recording of results.
How to enter the emission screening results in a data base for statistical information.
What information to print on the vehicle's windscreen sticker.

Upon passing an annual exam your details will be published on the ETNZ ltd web site as part of the certification.

Please note: the seminar is to enable vehicle inspectors to screen vehicle emissions to a consistent and objective level throughout the country.

The inspector can be brought up to a diagnostic level through the DMS 1 series seminars and the Diagnostic Emission expert D 2 Module.

The inspector can bring his/her own emission tester (homologated and calibrated!), or our (AVL & Brainbee) emission testers can be used.

Pre requisite: the inspector has completed the AED 'Automotive Electronic Diagnostic' 2 day training seminar, regardless of the achieved level through other training systems or experience!
