    2.3) Vehicle Preperations

The engine of the vehicle needs to be up to operating temperature and the exhaust fumes need to be extracted from the workshop.

One of the most important rules of emission testing is to look after your own health! Both petrol and diesel emissions contain carcinogenic particles. It should be fully clear, that breathing in these particles (even on a perfectly tuned vehicle) is very hazardous to your health.
It is essential that good exhaust extraction equipment is used, or that the test is performed outside. Also there is no lingering behind a running vehicle on a daily basis!

It is most effricient to carry out the emission test inmediately when the vehicle has come in from the road (e.g. test drive) so it is at operating temperature.
Emission values are affected by engine temperature.

For periodical emission testing an engine temperature measurement is critical for accurate, objective and consistent test results.
